Local Authority Waters Programme Public Consultation Events

9 February 2022

The Local Authority Waters Programme (LAWPRO) invites you to upcoming public consultation meetings on water quality in Co. Clare and the Draft River Basin Management Plan for Ireland (2022-2027).

Minister Darragh O’Brien TD, and Minister of State Malcolm Noonan TD, published the draft plan late last year for a six-month public consultation period, ending on the 31 March 2022. Please see:

LAWPRO, as a local government shared service, is supporting the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage, in delivering local level engagement and public consultation meetings throughout Ireland.

LAWPRO encourages local people to get involved in the management of their local water bodies, to have their say and to get involved in the process.

Meetings are being organised online throughout Ireland at a Municipal District level, often with two or more MDs combined for the one online meeting.

The two meetings in County Clare are as follows:

Tuesday - 15th February, 7,30pm: Focused on the Shannon, Killaloe, and Ennis Municipal Districts covering the following catchments Lower Shannon, Lough Derg & River Fergus.

Thursday - 17th February at 7.30pm: Focused on the West Clare Municipal District covering the following catchments Inagh River, Shannon Estuary & the Malbay.

Register here: https://lawaters-ie.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZckf-qhqzkiHddwJg0OvSm7rFn5SISthDK1

During the meetings, information will be presented on water quality within local waterbodies, the draft River Basin Management Plan and on how to make a submission. The meetings will also allow plenty of time for discussion, Q&A.

This approach is focused on listening to local communities and Elected Members regarding their views and perspectives about what’s happening within their local waterbodies and what needs to be done to address water quality concerns.

LAWPRO will gather these views, collate them, and send a report to Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage to help better inform the final River Basin Management Plan for Ireland.
